Lamar Willis, Coach

As a Minnesota native raised in Seattle, WA, Lamar’s love of basketball started at the age of 8. While playing high school basketball for Robbinsdale Cooper, Lamar mentored kids at Folwell Middle School in Minneapolis. The coaching seed was planted when Lamar was asked to coach Folwell and won the city title in the first year.  His coaching journey continued as he began coaching the Minneapolis Hustlers AAU basketball team at the age of 17 before graduating from Robbinsdale Cooper in 1994.  While coaching the Hustlers, Lamar created the Minnesota Future Stars in 2000.  In addition to playing and coaching AAU, Lamar continued honing his understanding of the game by refereeing and attending premier basketball clinics across the country.  He spent 2 years as the Head Varsity Coach at Ascension Academy as well as his Alma Mater, Robbinsdale Cooper High School.​

Currently, Lamar coaches at Bloomington Kennedy High School, while operating and coaching the Minnesota FutureStars program.  Lamar realizes the Lord gave him a gift of using basketball to help young men understand life and successfully make it through this world. His goal as a coach is to teach young men how to be respectable and moral citizens. Lamar believes that an important part of coaching is teaching life lessons: work hard, never quit and have a positive attitude.
